History Lesson

We are living in unprecedented times. I am writing this amidst the pandemic of 2020, and under "shelter in place" restrictions. Every day we hear stories on the news of crisis, loss, and heroes. The stories that I find the most compelling have been people sharing stories of what their parents or grandparents did in past moments of crisis.

I juggle the options daily for just staying home, gather your loved ones, and ride it out. Live to tell the tale. But what tale will come from that? We hear of people rising to the occasion, scientists developing new tests, epidemiologists showing their models, healthcare professionals, and first responders engaging the fight. We have seen citizens making gestures of humanity, both big and small.

It can be overwhelming to think about all that is happening. But it is easier to focus on helping just one person. One person at a time. Help them in some way to gain comfort physically or mentally. Be a role model for your kids, your friends, and your family. That is all it takes to make history.
